Something's pulling me down, It's the Pull Me Under

DT's Greates Hit, and they call it Pull Me Under

Okay, if we're talking about, rock music, power, and progressivity, I think we've got to mean one thing : Dream Theater's Pull Me Under. It's not just about yelling and screaming out loud or blowing your voice up, because for me, the Pull Me Under is one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard.

Let's take a look at the lyrics
Pull Me Under
(lyrics by Kevin Moore)

Lost in the sky
Clouds roll by and I roll with them
Arrows fly
Seas increase and then fall again

This world is spinning around me
This world is spinning without me
Every day sends future to past
Every breath leaves one less to my last

Watch the sparrow falling
Gives new meaning to it all
If not today nor yet tomorrow then some other day

I'll take seven lives for one
And then my only father's son
As sure as I ever did love him
I am not afraid

This world is spinning around me
The whole world keeps spinning around me
All life is future to past
Every breath leaves me one less to my last

Pull me under Pull me under
Pull me under I'm not afraid
All that I feel is honor and spite
All I can do is to set it right

Dust fills my eyes
Clouds roll by and I roll with them
Centuries cry
Orders fly and I fall again

This world is spinning inside me
The whole world is spinning inside of me
Every day sends future to past
Every step brings me closer to my last

Pull me under Pull me under
Pull me under I'm not afraid
Living my life too much in the sun
Only until your will is done

Pull me under Pull me under
Pull me under I'm not afraid
All that I feel is honor and spite
All I can do is to set it right

Pull me under Pull me under
Pull me under I'm not afraid
Living my life too much in the sun
Only until your will is done

Looking at the lyrics, I personally think that it's a great combination with the instrumental tracks, under the voice of James LaBrie. Well, eventhough John Petrucci didn't put a normal-length guitar solos within the track, I can still feel the power of their music, since the band is not only built by only one instrument, for sure. John Myung's bass track also the element. This guy always have what it takes to make a powerful song. The keyboard track is recorded under the finger of Kevin Moore at that time, and I think it's really great. The drum parts portrayed by Mike's monstrous kits and under the highly-skilled hands of Mike Portnoy. I'm not surprise with the fact that Dream Theater put this song as the only hit on their "Greatest Hit (...and 21 other pretty cool songs)" album release. This is the only DT masterpiece that receive magnificent radio hit reception without really much promotion from the band and the record label.  Yeah, this song is remarkable, no doubt about it.
